The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries is delighted to invite applications from UK medical students for sponsorship to support electives undertaken abroad between March 2026 and February 2027.
We very much hope that your students will find this award of interest, and that you will advertise it to them – please find attached a flier about the Prize to forward on. This flier and more information about the Society is available at https://www.apothecaries.org/awards/
In 2017 the Society celebrated the 400th Anniversary of the granting of its Charter by King James I. To mark this occasion, it launched the Rhino Electives, offering grants to medical students to support their electives. In line with the 400th theme, the awards are worth £400 each. In modern times, the Society’s Centre for Health Studies (CfHS) provides a range of educational opportunities, including post-graduate examinations, lectures & courses. Within the CfHS, there are two Faculties. The Faculty of Conflict & Catastrophe Medicine offers courses and exams to support medical practitioners working in disaster situations. The Faculty of History and Philosophy of Medicine and Pharmacy offers courses & examinations to suit a wide range of interest levels and specialisms.
The Society encourages imaginative and original Elective placements. Note: we expect there to be arrangements for supervising elective students.
The deadline for applications will be: Sunday 4th January 2026 at 23:59 GMT.
Applicants must be:
- within the three final years of their medical student training.
- undertaking their electives between March 2026 and February 2027.
