Housing and Accommodation

College:

ICSMSU:

  • Occasionally adverts are posted by fellow students looking for flatmates onto our Facebook groups.
  • Peer-to-Peer advice can be sought through our Mums & Dads scheme.

ICSM Faculty:  

  • Speak with FEO Welfare about short term accommodation options.

Imperial College Union:

  • The ICU Advice Centre can offer you independent support if you experience problems with your accommodation. More information here.

External:

Financial Support

  • Student Support fund offers up to £4000 of either a grant or repayable loan. You must have approached the ICSM hardship fund first.

Raising Concerns

Reporting Racism

  • We’ve put together a guidance document on what you can do in the moment if you experience, participate in, or witness racism or discrimination.
  • You can speak with our ICSMSU President or Welfare Chair for independent advice, peer-support, and signposting. 

 College:  

  • Student Harassment Support Contacts (SHSCs) – staff with specialist training to listen to concerns relating to bullying, harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct. They can provide confidential support and help navigate the process for reporting another student or staff.
  • Report + Support – Anonymous reporting. This data can be used by College to monitor trends and patterns of behaviour.

Reporting harassment by another student

Sexual Violence or Harassment

Emergency support: On campus – 020 7589 1000 for College security who will contact the emergency services. Off campus – 999. 

 

College:  

  • Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLOs) – Staff members with specialist training to support students who have experienced sexual violence. They can provide confidential support and help navigate the process for reporting another student or staff.
  • Counselling service. Safe and confidential space to talk with a trained professional and explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to develop a better understanding of yourself and coping strategies. Book an appointment here.
  • Report + Support – Anonymous reporting. This data can be used by the College to monitor trends and patterns of behaviour. 

ICSM Faculty: 

  • FEO Welfare – can discuss what College processes are available to you. You can also be directed to speak to a male/female Senior Tutor depending on preference. 

ICSMSU:

  • You can speak with our ICSMSU President or Welfare Chair for independent advice, peer-support, and signposting. 

External:  

Health and Safeguarding

Mental Health

Emergency Support: Seek medical advice from the College Healthcare Centre. They can also be contacted on 0207 584 6301. Or you can find your nearest A&E

 

College: 

  • Counselling service. Safe and confidential space to talk with a trained professional and explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to develop a better understanding of yourself and coping strategies. Book an appointment here.
  • SilverCloud – Online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programmes.
  • Senior Mental Health Advisers can offer support and advice if you are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. 

ICSMSU:

  • You can seek independent advice from our SU President or Welfare Chair who can help signpost to the various services available.

  • College have published a list of external support, counselling, and psychotherapy services here. IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services are also available by the NHS
Reporting a police interaction

1. Do not accept a police caution. This may come up on an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate and has potential to lead to a fitness to practice issue later in your career. 

2. Contact the ICSMSU President in the first instance to seek advice on navigating the immediate situation. 

3. You will be advised to then contact the Head of Secretariat, Trisha Brown, on trisha.brown@imperial.ac.uk as soon as possible.

4. Your senior tutor can offer you support for your wellbeing.
