Date/time: Thursday 20 November 12.00-13.00

Location: SHER 322 Lecture Theatre, South Kensington campus

Overview: This session supports new students to explore what it means to be an effective university student at Imperial. Through a range of activities, students will unpack key expectations, discuss strategies for independent study, and consider ways to thrive both academically and personally. The session draws on educational research about the ‘ideal’ student and insights from the Learning Well Project, which explored Imperial students’ lived experiences, study strategies, and wellbeing-related issues. Students will also reflect on the transition from school to university and think about how to build confidence and balance while defining their own version of success.

Overview: Did you know that competition and collaboration don’t have to be opposites? This fun and interactive session explores how the two can actually complement each other to enhance learning. Through an activity based on an adapted version of the popular TV series, ‘The Traitors’, students will actively engage in and reflect on how competitive environments can both motivate and challenge collaboration. Students will also discuss practical strategies for fostering a collaborative mindset and ways to strike a healthy balance between striving for personal excellence and building peer networks for mutual support and shared learning.
