Paediatric Elective Opportunities in Bangkok, Thailand

‘Geographical Pediatrics’ course – continuously in 4-week cycles for 4th-6th Yr medical U/Gs.

The course attracts international students from ‘everywhere’ including UK, Europe and to a lesser extent Australasia, and is supervised in English. They can accommodate up to a maximum of 4 students per course. The aim is to provide an introduction to pediatric practice and medical conditions prevalent in SE Asia, and an appreciation of the Thai medical system. Clinical encounters take place in the wards and OPD of the affiliated tertiary referral centre, the King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital (KCMH). Debriefs take place each day with relevant clinicians to ensure the course participants are able to have their questions answered and are steadily progressing in their understanding and knowledge. The cost is $250 per course. There is a ‘Foreign Affairs’ office which can help with finding accommodation – there are dorms on campus, but most students opt to stay in AirBnB nearby. It’s a very central location in Bangkok, right next to Lumphini Park.

June, July and August are very popular and tend to be booked at least a year in advance, but at other times it should be possible to make arrangements with 6 month’s forward planning.
