The programme will include debates, keynote speeches, research competitions and more, in addition to updates regarding our latest studies. Our key focus remains: hot topics for all urologists; inviting the “movers and shakers” of British urology; demonstrating how BURST research can improve practice at your unit.
Monday 16 June, 16:30-17:30, Charter 3Day 1: FAKE NEWS! Challenging the Evidence in Urology 📰Chairs: Mr Arjun Nathan & Professor Prokar DasguptaDay 1 asks the burning question: has fake news infiltrated your daily urology practice? We’re here to do a fact-check. Professor Freddie Hamdy, Editor-in-Chief of BJUI, will deliver our keynote lecture on “The Challenge of Misinformation” setting the scene for what promises to be an eye-opening session. This will be followed by our myth-busting panel “Dogma or Doctrine?” featuring experts across all subspecialties, Jon Aning (Oncology), Tamsin Greenwell (Female/Functional/Reconstructive), Richard Hindley (Male LUTS), Maria Satchi (Andrology), and Oliver Wiseman (Stones). They’ll pick apart the key research you’ve taken for granted and challenge everything you think you know. The session concludes with Cameron Alexander introducing the LANDMARK Project: a single-point resource for the key papers in urology that will revolutionise how we access evidence.
Tuesday 17 June, 14:00-15:00, Exchange 9Day 2: TUF x BURST – The Research X Factor 🎤Chairs: Ms Mary Garthwaite & Mr Kevin ByrnesManchester will host the (Research) X Factor in collaboration with The Urology Foundation (TUF). Get your buzzers ready as you hear from contestants from across the country competing for your votes to take their innovative research ideas to the next level. Rakesh Heer, Graeme Maclennan, Stefanie Croghan and Joe Philip will judge the competition, but ultimately YOU decide the winner! The session will feature rapid-fire research pitches followed by a head-to-head final showdown. This is your chance to witness the future of urology research and help shape which groundbreaking studies get the support they deserve. Veeru Kasivisvanathan and Rakesh Heer will also discuss how TUF and BURST collaboration is transforming research opportunities.
Wednesday 18 June, 14:00-15:00, Exchange 9Day 3: Haematuria? You’ve Got It All Wrong! 🩸Chairs: Ms Nikita Bhatt & Professor Jim CattoBe the first to hear initial results from the WASHOUT study, our global observational study examining current practices for unscheduled haematuria managementKevin Byrnes will provide the eagerly anticipated update on this landmark project involving over 300 sites worldwide. We’ll start with a fierce debate chaired by Benjamin Lamb: “Ongoing Haematuria after 24 hours should be taken to the emergency theatre” with Ben Challacombe arguing FOR and Bernadett Szabados arguing AGAINST. Then tune in to our all-star round-table as Jim Catto, Conrad Von Stempel, John Peters, Charlotte Dunford and Ravi Barod get your pulse racing by taking us through their most challenging cases of haematuria and how they managed them. From emergency cystectomies to upper tract bleeding, these are the cases that will make you rethink everything.
