Paid opportunity for Medicine students/staff interested in widening access to university

Causeway Education is a small charity that supports young people to overcome socio-economic barriers to accessing university. We run a programme (in partnership with the Sutton Trust and others) that offers university applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to gain support from an online mentor during the UCAS application cycle.

Evaluations of the programme have shown that a mentor’s support makes a real difference to students who need it the most, by:

  • Boosting their confidence.
  • Helping to alleviate levels of stress during a challenging transitional period.
  • Increasing the likelihood that students progress to university.

More information about the role is in the attached documents. The key points are:

  • Suitable for undergraduates in 2nd year and above, postgraduates and staff members.
  • Communication between mentor and mentee takes place on our secure online platform via text chat function and personal statement feedback – no phone, video or in-person contact.
  • Programme runs from July 2025 to January 2025.
  • A few hours per week, fitting in flexibly around other work/study commitments.
  • Full training and support provided.

Please do get back to me with any questions. We’d be delighted to take expressions of interest (attaching a CV) via email to mentoring@causeway.education by Wednesday 16th April.
