Who we are
CLEFT is a national charity founded by Great Ormond Street plastic surgeon Mr Brian Sommerlad, which aims to create sustainable cleft lip and palate care overseas in Low and Middle Income Countries.
CLEFT works with local teams regularly, to provide education and equipment to help these countries develop and maintain high-quality, multidisciplinary CLEFT centres. Additionally, CLEFT funds and supports research within centres both in the UK and overseas investigating causes and treatment of clefts.
Our Mission
To support local teams so that children born with clefts in these countries will have the same opportunities of having quality cleft care as those in the UK. To contribute to the progression in understanding of causes and treatment of clefts, through investing in research.
