GMC and medical schools council competition

Be in with a chance of winning £300 by entering the GMC and Medical Schools Council student competition.

All students graduating from UK medical schools from summer 2025 onwards will be required to pass the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) as part of their degree.

For this year’s competition, we’re asking you to consider the role that the MLA will play in your journey to becoming a doctor and joining a regulated profession. The task is to create engaging online content that explains to other students at UK medical schools what the MLA is and how it will help to assure us, your employers, your colleagues and your patients that you have the core knowledge, skills and behaviours required for safe medical practice.

The introduction of the MLA will be a landmark moment for medical education in the UK. We’re interested in how you can think like a leader and communicate this complex initiative effectively.

You’ll need to draw on information that is available on the GMC and Medical Schools Council websites:

l  https://www.medschools.ac.uk/medical-licensing-assessment

You have until midday on Friday 20 September 2024 to take part. The winning entry will receive a £300 voucher, be shared with medical schools across the UK and be shared across the GMC’s social media channels. Two runner-up entries will be awarded a £100 voucher each. You can find out more at gmc-uk.org/studentcompetition

Last year’s winners produced a video exploring how to apply the guidance Achieving good medical practice to various scenarios students might face on placement.

It would also be great for you to remind your fellow students about both our newsletter – GMC news for students – and our student-specific Instagram. They’re great ways to learn more about what it will mean to join a regulated profession.

Finally, I know we’ve recently been in contact regarding visiting you this September for your medics fair. We’re still keen to come along, so please let me know if there have been any updates.
