We are pleased to invite you to participate in the Survey of National Approaches to Practice in Local Anaesthetic Rhinology Surgery (SNAP-LARS), a national collaborative study supported by the British Rhinological Society (BRS) and BRS Juniors.
While there is evidence that Local Anaesthetic Rhinology Surgery (LARS) is safe and cost-efficient, there is currently limited understanding of how it is practised across the UK. This study aims to provide a national benchmark for LARS practice, allowing hospitals to compare their approaches and to support the development of new LARS services by providing data that can be used in local business cases.
The SNAP-LARS project aims to:
• Map the current national landscape of LARS services across NHS Trusts
• Explore variations in peri-operative protocols, patient pathways, and service models
• Identify perceived barriers to establishing or expanding LARS services
The study involves completing a structured online survey (approximately 10–15 minutes if you already know the answers) detailing your department’s LARS practices and protocols. Data collection will run from 1st November 2025 to 1st February 2026.
Each participating Trust is invited to register one Consultant Lead and up to two Trainee Leads. There is no minimum number of procedures required for participation, and all centres are encouraged to join regardless of LARS case volume.
Each registered site will be acknowledged as a collaborator on the final publication, with consultant and trainee leads named as co-authors if the forms are completed thoroughly with as much detail as possible. Whilst not essential, we would encourage each site to register this study as an audit locally in order to obtain the most accurate possible data from their relevant clinical coding department.
