SUMMARY:Simulation/VR Training in Surgery: a patient-based approach
DESCRIPTION:**This event is cancelled until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic and altered availabilities of the speaker. We apologise on behalf of Dr Tom Bainton for any inconvenience caused\, and look forward to hosting the event in the near future** \nThis week\, in our series of alternative careers in medicine\, we have Dr Tom Bainton who’ll be giving a talk on simulation training and minimally invasive surgery! \nTom Bainton is currently the Fellow in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital\, London. This role is mainly focussed on surgery for patients with deep infiltrating endometriosis. He graduated from Oxford University Medial School in 2012 and underwent foundation training in the London Deanery. He commenced speciality training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Cambridge in 2014 before returning to London for his current post. \nOutside of his clinical role he is a faculty member of the Chelsea Centre for Minimally Invasive Gynaecology (CCMIG)\, which runs minimal access surgery training courses for delegates both in the UK and internationally through hands-on simulation and online. The Centre is moving to a fully virtual model for some courses to allow continued training through the pandemic\, which is run through the online learning platform on the CCMIG website. He has a broad interest in medical education\, particularly simulation and innovative training models\, and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from Cambridge University in 2019. \nTom also leads the patient and public involvement arm for CCMIG and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Endometriosis Services via social media and YouTube\, where they present educational videos for both patients and medical students / trainees. His research interest is in the field of endometriosis by development of a quantitative diagnostic algorithm for this enigmatic condition. \nHope to see you all there!

SUMMARY:Shrove Tuesday Final Year Dinner 2021
DESCRIPTION:Dear Class of 2021\, \nWe are delighted to invite you to the 81st Shrove Tuesday Final Year Dinner. \nDuring the early years of World War 2\, staff and students at the old Westminster Hospital gathered together and held the first Shrove Tuesday Final Year Dinner as a sign of their unwavering morale and spirit in a time of hardship. Although the hardships we face are now of a different nature\, the same indominable spirit of our final year students remains. \nSTFYD has become a proud ICSM tradition of honouring and celebrating our final year students\, as they reach the end of their long journey at medical school. Join your fellow students\, faculty and consultants in looking back on the fond memories and friends you have made throughout these 6 years\, and celebrate both what you have achieved and will achieve in the future. \nPlease click going and follow @STFYD2021 on Instagram for updates – we will be releasing information throughout the year\, particularly as the coronavirus guidelines are constantly changing. \nBut for now\, please save the date! \nYour STFYD committee

SUMMARY:Move of the MDLs - Vision For Medicine Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Link Above! ^ \nBack in December\, the Faculty of Medicine announced the Move of our MDLs into a separate building\, as part of the next step in the series that makes up their “Vision for the Faculty of Medicine”. \nYou can read our original statement on the matter here: https://mailchi.mp/imperial/icsmsus-statement-on-the-loss-of-safs-mdls \nThe Faculty of Medicine are now hosting a Q&A session on the Move of our MDLs and their Vision for Medicine. \nThey will be hosting this as a Teams live event. \nWe would like to take this opportunity to build a constructive dialogue between the Faculty and students\, and for students to put forward their views on changes and improvements to the medical school experience. We believe strongly that this should be a two-way process\, and that students should have a loud and active voice in influencing the direction the Faculty of Medicine takes. \nSo bring your thoughts\, opinions\, support\, challenges and ideas. This is a time of great change to our course and the School\, but we have a chance to design the future of education at ICSM and it’s important we have a voice.
