2022 RARE Compassion Program

The 2022 RARE Compassion Program is a unique opportunity for medical students to develop relationships with patients and their families experiencing a rare diagnosis, with the goal of developing compassion and awareness for the challenges that patients diagnosed with a rare disease are faced with every day.

By participating in the RARE Compassion Program, medical students will have the opportunity to meet 1:1 with multiple patients living with a rare disease. Through these in-depth, personal conversations, students will learn about the many facets of living with a complex medical condition and will learn a valuable lesson in patient care and communication.

During meetings with their patient partners, students will get a holistic view of the impact rare disease has not only on the patient and family but on the entire medical system. Students will walk away from the program with a better understanding of how to navigate the medical system, how to have difficult conversations with a patient, how to show empathy and compassion for their patients, and most importantly foster and reaffirm their desire to practice medicine to the best of their ability.

Applications are now live! Students can apply here until February 25th.
