Debate Mate are recruiting a new wave of intelligent, inspiring and passionate mentors. Do you want to change the lives of young people around the world? Then mentoring for Debate Mate is just for you!
Debate Mate aims to tackle educational disadvantage in some of Britain’s most deprived communities. It does this by recruiting and training university students to run extra-curricular debate workshops in schools with an above average percentage of children eligible for Free School Meals. Our programmes increase speaking and listening attainment and improve a range of higher-order thinking skills and non-cognitive abilities such as confidence, teamwork, and leadership. In doing so, our programmes address the widening skills gap between education and employment, whilst raising aspirations and helping students to make informed post-18 choices.

Sounds amazing – how do I get started?
You can SIGN UP HERE and tell us a little bit about yourself. You will then be invited to attend one of our 1.5 hour assessment sessions. If successful, you will then attend a training session where we will prepare you to teach our programme. Once you have completed the training, you will be allocated a school close to where you live and you will start mentoring. —
“Debate Mate is a wonderful organisation which inspires children. The debating groups and training programmes are first class.”
