Inviting Medical Students to Participate in the RARE Compassion Program

On behalf of Global Genes and the rare disease community, I would like to take this opportunity to invite your medical students to participate in our RARE Compassion Program aimed to inspire the pursuit of medical careers in rare diseases through fostering an understanding of and compassion for rare disease patients and the challenges they face every day.

By participating in this program, medical students gain valuable insight that will influence their doctor-patient relationships and help nurture compassion for those faced with chronically ill and life-limiting diseases. Students are paired with pediatric and adult patients and their families and engage in a series of direct listening sessions and educational programs designed to broaden their understanding of how they can make a difference in the lives of patients with complex medical disorders, and acquire valuable skills that will improve their ability to serve as partners and advocates for rare disease patients and caregivers they’ll encounter in their careers.

Students who complete the RARE Compassion Program will also be invited to join a private RARE Compassion alumni network and apply for the David R. Cox Scholarship for RARE Compassion, an annual award given to a student who articulates patient centricity through their reflections and experiences from the program.

We would be grateful if you would share the attached program information to eligible medical students and encourage them to apply. The application deadline is Sunday, February 28, 2021.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to compassionprogram@globalgenes.org

We look forward to our continued work to support  the rare disease community and the professional development of medical students.
