Union Update

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a chance to have a breather during the recent Bank Holiday weekend, and I hope you’re all enjoying the start of the summer term/looking forward to the summer vacation – not too long to go now!

Well done to everyone who has recently finished an exam (or, if you’re even luckier, a whole set of exams!).

The 24-hour Light Opera performance of ‘Mamma Mia!’ took place over the weekend, and it was a spectacular show all-round, which undoubtedly took a huge amount of effort to pull together in just 24 hours so a huge well done to everyone involved!

On behalf of the ICSM Summer Ball committee, I’m delighted to inform you that Summer Ball dinner tickets are on sale. This year the venue will be the highly exclusive Rose Suite at Twickenham Stadium. It is rumoured to be the best black-tie event that ICSM has ever seen, with a fantastic line-up of after-dinner entertainment planned. I’m sure you’ve all saved the date in your diaries in anticipation, but just as a reminder, the Ball will be on Thursday 27th June, and you can buy your dinner tickets from
here.

Best of luck to everyone with revision/projects (and everything else)!

Just in case you haven’t seen it already, the newly renovated Fleming Library at St Mary’s is now open, and I’ve heard that it looks absolutely fantastic so please do pop over to have a look if you get the chance.

Students with a disability

The GMC would like students with any disability to contact them to learn about their experiences in training – specifically how the disability has affected you in learning clinical skills, and whether you have required and been provided with any adjustments to help overcome difficulties associated with your impairment.

The GMC’s aim is to publish information, including possibly a video interview, on the adjustments that may be required by a doctor with a disability, as part of their
‘Experience Shared’ programme to promote a positive approach to disability within the profession.

If this applies to you and you’d like to help with this project, please contact Natalie Fine at NFine@gmc-uk.org.

Cystic Fibrosis & Lung Transplant Workshop

As part of our 1st Transplant Awareness Week, the Organ Donor Drive by Imperial Hub (ODD) will be hosting a special workshop on cystic fibrosis (CF) and lung transplants on Thursday May 16, 17:30-18:30 in SAF Seminar Room 120.

The workshop is free for all Imperial College students and staff, and will be an excellent opportunity to go over previously learnt material (e.g. CPS module for Y1 BMS) and gain a deeper appreciation for the topics. Complimentary snacks and drinks will be provided.

If you are interested in attending, please reserve a place any time before the talk by emailing
cys12@imperial.ac.uk with the title “Cystic fibrosis workshop”.
