I hope those of you lucky enough to have an Easter vacation had a productive break.
Firstly, apologies for the lack of a newsletter 2 weeks ago, and for our website being down for maintenance – unfortunately, the ICU servers had a fault which is currently in the process of being fixed. You should all be able to access the ICSMSU website. Thanks for your patience with this.
The BMA Medical Students Conference took place on 5 & 6 April, and we are delighted to say that the motion presented by ICSM passed with an overwhelming majority. You can read more about our motion here, as well as accessing full coverage of what was debated at the conference here.
Following on from our protest against BUCS, we strongly urged BUCS to reconsider their position in light of the evident disbelief amongst the medical schools with BUCS’ decision to go ahead with the proposed changes. More recently, The Medical Schools Council also contacted BUCS to express its concern regarding the proposed changes. However it is with great regret that I have to say that BUCS have not been amenable to either of these protests against their proposal and have responded with the following document. This has left us with no other option but to choose ‘option 1’, under which we will retain our identity as ICSM clubs, albeit playing under Imperial College as our host institution in BUCS leagues. We are currently planning the full implications of this as we speak.

The library has been completely redecorated and has improved heating, lighting and IT infrastructure. New features include extra computers and study space, two group study rooms, smartboards, a dedicated training room and an internal staircase that provides access to the gallery floor.
The CX Library in the Reynolds building will be open from 10am-5pm over both upcoming May bank holiday weekends (4-6 May and 25-27 May). On the Sundays and Mondays, contract staff will staff the library.
