OCTOBER 1ST – OCTOBER 14TH!!!

The Best Two Weeks of Your Life

The waiting is finally over! If results day brought good news (and we hope it did!) you will soon receive a huge bundle of post from Imperial College; most of it is boring admin stuff that your parents can read through.  However, there is also a treat included for you- The Official ICSM Freshers’ Fortnight Passport 2011.  This beauty will guarantee you entry into every event during Freshers’ Fortnight and buying one works out a lot cheaper than the on-the-door fees!

Enter your details on the last two pages and send it back to us ASAP with your Passport photo (you can smile for this one!) and a cheque for £55 payable to ‘Imperial College Union’ to make sure you do not miss out!  We advise you to act quick before they sell out and get ready for the best two weeks of your life!

If you have any questions, please post them on the Official Facebook Group for ICSM Freshers 2011-12 or email icsm.socials@imperial.ac.uk

Events Schedule

« of »

Saturday 1st October – The Mingle

The Mingle is where it all begins – throw your shyness out the window and get to know the people you’re going to be studying with for the next six years! The event is held at the Beit Quad, and takes place on one of two nights, Saturday or Sunday, depending on what Halls of Residence you are in. The Union puts on cheap drinks all night and supplies Live Entertainment! Tickets are usually supplied to you by your Halls when you move in, if you’re living at home you can buy one from the Union website.

Sunday 2nd October – Pizza Party

You might have four A*s at A-levels but those who truly qualify as ICSM geniuses come to this event, because this is where you pick up The Freshers’ Passport you so wisely ordered! Any other essentials you’ll need for your time here such as scrubs and labcoats can be purchased, and as the name suggests – there’s free food for all! The SU are on hand to answer any general questions you might have about ICSM, so head down to Queens Lawn, we can’t wait to meet ya!

Monday 3rd October – Boat Party

The Boat Party is your first night out with your fellow medics and for a lot of you the first boat party you’ll ever go on! Meet at Embankment tube station (District and Circle line) at 7.30pm. Hit the decks to see the beautiful London sights or just dance the night away inside! The boat party is traditionally pirate themed fancy dress – it’s really easy; we recommend the Non-Stop Party shop on High Street Kensington or any Primark! Please note that entry to the Boat Party is only guaranteed if you buy a Passport.

Tuesday 4th October – Mums’ & Dads’ Night

If you signed upto our Mums’ & Dads’ welfare scheme, head down to Reynolds Bar (CX campus aka your home for the next six years) and meet them! If you haven’t signed up – do it! Medic Parents are fantastic resources and help with everything from revision notes, hints on which lectures you can fall asleep in and tips on which horny older years to steer clear of! The sign-up form can be found under the Welfare Tab at the top of your screen. If you miss the deadline, just show up anyway, there are stacks of generous Medic parents ready to adopt you. With drinks deals and inflatable fun, there’s no reason to miss out! Entry is free with the Passport and £5 without.

NB – Mums’ & Dads’ Night has previously been misconstrued as a night where Freshers bring their biological parents and show them around CX Campus. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE!!! Just show up on your own/ with your mates and meet your Medic Parents! If you are desperate to show your actual folks around the place, save it for one of the Open Days.

Wednesday 5th October – Drs’ & Nurses’ Pub Crawl

Drs’ & Nurses’ is steeped in ICSM history and as you take to the streets of Hammersmith you’ll be surrounded by scrub-wearers who hailed the Reynolds back when you were still doing GCSEs! Drinkers and non-drinkers alike crawl from the Reynolds to the epic Walkabout Shepherd’s Bush, with the afterparty going on until late! Will you make it all the way? This year’s crawl is going to be bigger than ever, and don’t be afraid to go all out – we’re going to provide coaches back to Halls at the end! As always, entry is free with a Passport and £7 without.

Thursday 6th October – Film Night

Free Films, free food, free fun. Only at the Reynolds. Take the night off, trust us, you’ll need to recover for Roadshow.

Friday 7th October – Roadshow

Your first week comes to an EPIC close with Roadshow. Scrub up, come to the Reynolds and let the Phoenix take you under its wings for the next six years. This is absolutely NOT TO BE MISSED! Entry comes with 3 drinks and costs a tenner, free with a Passport.

‘My MBBS just wouldn’t mean as much without Roadshow. I wouldn’t consider myself to have been a true ICSM medic without having done roadshow’
Dr Mark Chamberlain
Ex-ICSM President

Saturday 8th October – Casino Night

Why spend fortunes in Leicester Square’s Casinos when we’ll bring the fun to you?! We’re hiring out some of London’s finest Professional Croupiers to deal you out a night of Poker, Roulette and Blackjack! The highest rollers at the end of the night are rewarded, come on down!

Sunday 9th October – Sports Day

If you read Sports Day and thought ‘Egg & Spoon’ – think again! The ICSM Sports Day is your first chance to sample every sport that ICSM has to offer – especially important if you intend on coming down to Sports Nights! Last years winners will be back to defend their crown, have you got what it takes to mount a serious challenge? It’s a fun-filled day for all and free transport and food is provided for Passport Holders (£5 without).

Monday 10th October – The Freshers’ Ball

We at ICSM love Balls. Everything about them. And our Freshers’ Ball isn’t just held at the Beit Quad like IC Freshers’ Ball, we’re splashing out and hiring out one of London’s most exclusive night clubs – the newly refurbished Merah. This is going to be your first of many black-tie events at ICSM. Dress to impress, take advantage of great drinks deals all night and showcase your best dance moves. Tickets cost £20 and include two drinks at the club, they aren’t included with a Passport but can be bought online, or from ICSM President Suzie Rayner, who can be found behind a computer screen in her office at the SAF building, South Kensington.

Tuesday 11th October – Reynolds’ Pong

Whether you’re a past master of the game, just curious or fancy yourself at taking down Ed Norman (RBUBPL Winning captain 2010-11), this is probably the most fun you’ll ever have with 10 cups. Ed himself has voiced ‘I’ve put in years of practice into perfecting my technique. I’m hoping to scout for some new blood to join my team for the new season’. Its absolutely free so come on down.

Wednesday 12th October – Sports Night

The first Sport night of the year is always HUGE. We love our sports clubs at ICSM, they are tailored to fit around our relatively ridiculous timetables and each club has incredible social calendars! Weekly Sports Nights make up only a small yet significant part of the social aspect of ICSM Sports, definitely attend! Club Captains will usually instruct boys to wear ‘Number Ones’ (which varies from club to club, but again, Primarni will cover ya) and girls will be told to don some fancy dress. Circle with members of your club and party until late! All of its free, no hassle.

Thursday 13th October – Pub Quiz

Your last chance to nab some valuable prizes (especially important after two weeks of getting nearer to your overdraft limit) comes in the shape of the Pub Quiz. We hold many of these throughout the year. It’s only a fiver to play (free with Passport) so just grab anyone and everyone you know and up your chances of winning!

Friday 14th October – The Freshers’ Review & Beach Bop

Like all good things, Freshers’ Fortnight does unfortunately end. We’ll be handing out rewards for our favourite Freshers and Fresher-moments of 2011 at the review, before the Reynolds fills up with the rest of ICSM for the beach bop! If we were to summarise bops, we would say: great fancy dress, amazing drinks deals and dancing till late. For all you Abercrombie and Hollister whores (and you know who you are)- get them out, the beach bop is easy to dress up for and is a fantastic way to end your fortnight! Entry comes with 3 drinks and costs £8, and for the last time, its free with a Passport!
