Vision

Did you know that only 15% of medical students come from the lowest 3 social backgrounds? Want to help bridge the gap?

ISCM Vision believes that:

  • Doctors should be drawn from as many different backgrounds as the population they serve
  • Entry to medical school should be decided by ability, not by what your parents do or what they  earn
  • It’s up to us to make a difference

What Do We Do?

Our aim is to support students from our local state schools who are interested in studying medicine, but lack the appropriate support at school.

We run:

  • Junior Conference (November) – for years 9 – 12 to motivate students to think about medicine as a career
  • Senior Conference (September) – for year 13 students to improve personal statements and interview technique
  • Roadshow – visiting schools throughout the year to speak in assemblies, careers fairs etc

All these events are targeted at our local schools, who receive discounted tickets and support throughout the year.

How Can You Be Involved?

We are ALWAYS looking for enthusiastic new volunteers from all years.  We need volunteers for both conferences and for the Roadshow – to run tutorials and mock interviews, visit schools and help out generally.  It’s a great way to pass on all that expertise you gained during your own application!

To get involved:

  • Watch out for our emails throughout the year
  • Join our mailing list now by sending us an email

Our Committee come from all years and are responsible for running our events and for keeping in contact with our school list.  We elect the new committee in the spring and welcome applications from all years – we’re looking for enthusiastic people who are excited about outreach; experience not necessary!
