Light Opera

Do you crave attention? Do you know how to sing, dance, build, sew, control tech, play an instrument or just like to have fun on a regular basis? If any of the above strikes a chord, you have an obligation to yourself to try out for ICSM Light Opera Society! If the above do not ring true then we can direct you no further than the IC Library Club.‘Light Opera’ might sound excessively posh, but we’re nothing of the sort. We put on a couple of musicals per year, a full musical in first term performed over 5 nights- the infamous “Opera Week”, guaranteed to be the best week of your life! Followed by the 24 hour opera in second term in which we learn, rehearse, and build a set for a musical, complete with live band and costumes all within 24 horrifically tiring yet exhilarating hours. In the past few years we’ve put on Guys & Dolls, My Fair Lady, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin and the Rocky Horror Picture Show with astonishing success.

Despite ourselves we somehow churn out productions of very high quality, but apart from the shows themselves Opera is one of the most social clubs within the med school and a heavy emphasis is put on our social events. We indulge in regular trips to Havana’s (other apalling Fulham based bars are available) and an incredible pre-show weekend tour to a hidden location. We also organise events such as our Annual Black Tie Dinner, theatre trip and more!

Interested? If so we’re going to be at Fresher’s Fair on 4th October possibly with loud music and fresher enticing treats. Don’t worry if you haven’t done anything like this before: cast, band, backstage, costume, and tech – we all love Opera virgins!
