ICSM Drama is the best society ever! Ok, no but, all joking aside, it actually is. The society is open to anyone who wants to be a success in university (and in life). If that hasn’t swayed you, then one of these most certainly will:
- ANYONE can join. (For example, we have a token physicist who is a raging success). So it’s a great way to meet a huge range of people from different years and departments.
- We have members ranging from thesps to complete beginners. Don’t worry if you get stage fright, there’s a whole host of ways to get involved backstage too, including lighting, sound, set building, costume design, make-up… and the list goes on!
- If you want to turn your hand to something new, we are definitely the society to help! Interested in writing? Several of our productions the last few years were written by society members…
- We have five productions in the academic year. The highlights areThe Autumn Play and The Main Play; this year we will be performing ‘Guards Guards!’ by Terry Pratchett and an adaption of ‘Some Like it Hot’. Other performances include the Freshers’ Plays, the comedy Soiree and the UH Revue (which involves the other London med-schools too).
- We have a host of social events including Tour, Christmas Dinner, End of year Black tie Dinner, Discounted Theatre trips (this year we had a trip to see Tim Minchin!) as well as Play week socials (which are always legendary…qualified doctors will come back to join in!)
- The commitee is made up of President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social Secretary, Artistic Director and Tech Directors. We are all really friendly and have been involved in the society for years so are there to help with any problems you might have and dole out advice as readily as we dole out tequila (a lot…)
- Here’s the big one. There is a sexy £900 scholarship for those most actively involved in the society. Oh yes! Though only applicable to years 2 and above, you have to be involved early on to be in with a chance!
- Finally, the number of people you meet will guarantee you at least one set of revision notes for the coming exams. If that isn’t enough for you, the socials are known to be amazing!
