|The ICSM Water Polo Club was founded in 1997 after the merger of the St. Mary’s Hospital Club with the Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals Club. It is arguably the strongest Medical School water polo team in England. Just don’t ask how many other Medical Schools have their own water polo team!
We have two coached training sessions a week (Mondays at Charing Cross & Sundays at Ethos) aimed at teaching water polo to our new recruits and developing the skills of the rest of the team. Our buff Croatian fitness instructor also runs an (optional) land-training session once a week. The range of ability within the club is vast- almost all of our players have little or no experience when they join but develop into water polo monsters by mid-season.
Our competitive focus is the London University Sports League in which we enter a mixed gender team. Matches take place every week against other London universities. Players new to the game will have plenty of opportunity to get match experience in our Freshers’ Tournament and in League games. There is also the opportunity for our more serious players to compete in BUCS with a joint Medics/Imperial team.
When we’re not in trunks…
Team dinners, Pancake Party, House Parties, Reynolds, Southern Belle, Karaoke, TOUR, plane flights, foreign countries and academic tutorials are all in the calendar.
