| Love netball, keeping fit or just fancy a bit of fun? Then the ICSM Netball club is for you. As one of the most successful clubs at Imperial and as ICSM’s 2010 ‘Club of the year’. ICSM Netball is a club that anyone can join no matter what your netball ability.There are currently over 60 girls in the netball club, making us one of the largest teams at ICSM. There are 5 netball teams ranging from those who are netball pros in the 1sts to those who want to try netball for the first time or to improve their netball skills in the 5ths. We cater for all abilities and everyone who comes to our ‘try out’ day or to training will be placed in a team.Matches & Training:We compete in the BUCS and ULU leagues and each year we also participate in Varsity, the most important match of the year where we battle it out on the courts against IC. Matches are on Monday and Wednesday afternoon/evenings and training is every Sunday evening. All 5 teams train together in our courts in Acton with our coach Helen- a former England goalkeeper. This year Helen won ‘coach of the year’ at the Imperial ARCS (Appreciation, Recognition and Celebration of Sport) Awards and it is a great privilege to have her training us and passing on her expertise.Our first team have had an outstanding year, winning the ULU league and UH cup whilst also coming second in the South Eastern Conference BUCS league and ULU challenge cup. The second team have also had a series of promising results after having received a double promotion for the second year in a row. The third and fourth teams both did extremely well in their leagues and the newly formed 5th team have improved in leaps and bounds. We are also proud to be Varsity winners yet again and hence maintain our undefeated streak against IC since varsity first began
Not only do we pride ourselves on our netball skills but we take socialising extremely seriously. In order to get all our new netballers involved and into the netball spirit, the first event of the year is the Fresher’s Dinner. Every Wednesday evening after matches we all meet in the Reynolds for Sports Night where we celebrate each team’s achievements. Every week our social secretary sets the fancy dress theme for the circle. The most highly anticipated event of the year of course is tour where we team up with the ICSM Football Club, for what many would describe as ‘the best weekend of my life’. Two years ago we had a girls-only pre-season tour which took us to Manchester to watch the Netball World Series and this year we will be going to Liverpool! Aside from Sports nights, throughout the year we have many weekend socials- pub golf, booze bowling and Christmas dinner to name but a few. Whilst we do have a lot of fun throughout the year we do not forget that we are also here to learn! We help out netballers in the years below by passing down notes and running tuition sessions. This year we provided OSCE tuition for all the 3rd year Netballers whilst also running our own mock OSCE We will be at Fresher’s Fayre and also Sports Day so come find us then. Keep an eye out for our emails advertising the Netball ‘try out’ day and make sure you come along to sign up!
