Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a traditional Japanese self-defence martial art, originally adapted from the unarmed combat techniques of the samurai. The term “Jiu Jitsu” translates as “Gentle Art”, which reflects the basic principles behind its techniques. As a result, any practitioner of Jiu Jitsu, male or female, can learn to overcome any assailant. Unlike many martial arts, we focus more on throws and joint locks to better incapacitate our opponent. Aiuchi Jiu Jitsu is always taught from a self-defence perspective, and is never unnecessarily aggressive or offensive.

If you join us, we will help you to:

  • Learn to defend yourself effectively and legally. As well as their knowledge of Aiuchi Jiu Jitsu, our senseis (teachers) draw experience from other martial arts and the police.
  • Build your confidence
  • Learn to handle high-pressure situations
  • Have fun

Even if you don’t think a martial art would be the thing for you, give it a try and you might surprise yourself. Everybody at the club is really friendly, and we think it’s important to get to know each other both during training and socially.

 Events & Social

We usually have socials after each session as well as throughout the year. We’re more a large group of friends than an organised club. As a nationwide association, being part of Aiuchi gives as plenty of opportunities to train with other people across the country. There are regular association-wide training events, taught by some of the best “Jitsukas” in Britain. In August, we go to France for a 3-day, open-air event in private grounds.

This year, Imperial will be hosting the annual Aiuchi Nationals in November. This 2 day training event is the largest in the Aiuchi calendar and is always good fun, followed by a great night out afterwards.
