Lasker Essay Contest 2017

The Lasker Foundation has launched its 2017 Essay Contest! This exciting challenge engages young scientists and clinicians in a discussion about the big questions in biology and medicine today, and the role of biomedical research in our society. The contest aims to build skills in communicating important medical and scientific issues to broader audiences.

The Foundation seeks essays of 800 words or less on the following topic:

Using at least one specific example, propose ways in which breakthroughs in biomedical research can be made part of the daily global dialogue, so that a much wider public becomes better informed and more supportive of biomedical research endeavors.

We kindly ask for your assistance to spread the word about this contest, and to invite students and fellows from your institution to participate in it. The 2017 Essay Contest is open to international applicants, including those from programs outside the U.S.

Deadline for submitting essays is Monday, April 3, 2017.

First-place award is $10,000 and an expense-paid trip (economy class travel and one-night hotel stay) to New York to meet the 2017 Lasker Award winners (on September 15, 2017). Second- and third-place prizes are $5000 and $2500, respectively. All monetary prizes are to be used towards educational expenses.

ANNUAL RESTORE ELECTIVE ESSAY PRIZE 2016-2017 IN PLASTICS &
BURNS RESEARCH DEADLINE FAST APPROACHING: 31st JANUARY 2017

This annual competition is a fantastic chance to develop your portfolio,
enhance your knowledge of burns and plastic surgery and win a cash prize
of £1000, and a runner up prize to help with your elective.

The competition is open to all medical students who are registered at UK
medical schools and are within one year of beginning their elective
placement.

This year the essay title is “What is the evidence that a scar can
affect someone psychologically?”

British Society of Haematology Essay Prize

The British Society for Haematology invites Undergraduate medical and BMS students from UK schools in any year of training to write an essay on:
“Discuss the impact of obesity on the incidence and management of haematological disorders”
There will be a prize of £500 for the winner and £250 for the runner-up.
There will be a 2,500 word limit excluding references. Maximum of 20 references in any standard style
Format: Word Doc ONLY, no PDFs or Docx, please. Font to be Arial point 11 with line spacing of 11/2.
